Outage & Emergency Frequently Asked Questions
When the power goes out or an active infrastructure emergency occurs, use this guide to take immediate, safe action.
How do I report a power outage or downed line?
Do not assume your neighbor has called it in. Report all electrical emergencies, line failures, or grid disruptions immediately to our 24/7 dispatch operators:
• Local Dispatch: (509) 865-7697
• Toll-Free Emergency Line: (877) 382-2759
Why doesn't Yakama Power have a public interactive outage map?
As a specialized tribal utility, our engineering teams prioritize rapid dispatch and direct telephone communication over external tracking maps. For localized status updates during widespread storm events, call our main office lines directly.
What should I do during a prolonged outage?
• Keep It Closed: Keep your refrigerator and freezer doors shut tightly. An unopened refrigerator keeps food cold for about 4 hours; a full freezer maintains temperature for 48 hours.
• Protect Electronics: Unplug sensitive appliances, computers, and televisions. When grid power is restored, sudden voltage spikes can damage sensitive circuitry.
• Generator Safety: Never operate a portable backup generator inside your home, garage, or near windows. Carbon monoxide is deadly. Ensure the generator is positioned outdoors in a well-ventilated space.
Who do I call for water delivery or canal emergencies?
If you witness a canal breach, dangerous water overflow, or an immediate safety hazard involving the Wapato Irrigation Project infrastructure, contact our specialized operations branch:
• WIP Main Office: (509) 877-3155
